Here’s an idea for making the next two weeks tolerable for people of reason. Rather than bash fools on the Internet for their intrusive or silly religious views and distorted take on history, we should be bashing fools in newspapers for their intrusive or silly religious views and distorted take on history. Using the Internet.
An example of what I mean: Scan the letters to the editor in your local newspaper. If you see a flagrant example of ignorant, Christocentric bullshit, consider writing a firm, reasoned rebuttal. No harm can come of this and it might do some good. At the very least it will agitate the perpetrator, so those of us who enjoy petty sources of transient satisfaction have that carrot to reach for.
So with that in mind, I looked at today’s Concord Monitor and found an absolute breathtaking doozy:

It appears that the leftist, American media intends to remove the word “Christmas” and the salutation: “Merry Christmas” from the common American lexicon. This is not conjecture. Just look at all the ads!
How many times have you heard the word “Christmas” used? Compare that to the number of times you have heard “happy holidays” used. I’ve actually heard one commentator flub Merry Christmas by saying “Happy Christmas.”
This is a uniquely American season, where Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s a serious dedication to the Son of God! In spite of the silly babble one hears from American communists and atheists, America is a Protestant country and always will be. Any and all aliens who wish to become American citizens must assimilate into the American culture and be proud to do so. They have no cause or justification for imposing their culture on America and Americans. Somewhere along the line, this fact has become lost. If they don’t like America’s culture, they can always leave.

Bravo, Sam! You managed to turn a defense of Christmas into a sweeping, paranoid anti-immigrant rant. You shining example of a great Christian and American, you! I wonder how many guns this guy owns. Anyone who can’t choke his way through three Yule paragraphs without mentioning the commies and the brown people has a serious complex.
I’m going to write a response, but I would enjoy it if there were a small bombardment. So would the Monitor’s editorial staff. If you opt in, hit this link and get to work.
