Probably my best writing of 2008

Sad but true. (The part about the writing, that is. The event described never took place, but I’m working on that.)

Is there a biological reason that we love the smell of our own farts while being repulsed by others?

mg-I’ve often thought about the same thing as I sit in a bathroom stall, engulfed in the fog of my own satisfying, aromatic bowel movement. I am amazed that I can sit there and continue reading rather than holding my nose, wiping as fast as I can and running from that foul-smelling enclosure as fast as possible. I have come to the conclusion that it’s an evolutionary adaption that led to the survival of people with this unusual ability, while those without the same mechanism eventually died out because they refused to ever excrete their waste so as to avoid the unbearable stench, ultimately bursting apart in a loathsome and odious explosion of bacterial matter.
