This is just too funny. For a couple of years now, I’ve written off and on about the antics of the clowns behind the right-wing blog Granite Grok. Not only are they imperceptive and functionally illiterate, but they also lie. There’s no crime in posting ridiculous opinions on a weblog, however couched (if I couldn’t be a merry asshole myself I wouldn’t even bother with this enterprise). After all, there are those God-fearing souls who find my opinions about religious belief to be just as ridiculous as I find theirs (pretend for a moment that they are not brainwashed) and would call for an end to this blog if they could. But when you spread misinformation either because you’re a liar or because you’re too fucking lazy to do even a superficial amount of research, you deserve to be nailed for it, and refusing to admit error–the chief hallmark of wingnuts everywhere–marks you as not only stupid but weak in every way that counts.
I recently wrote a post that derided Doug Lambert (one of two bloggers at Granite Grok, the other being the equally addled Skip Murphy) for his support for serial harpy and nutcase Michele Bachmann. As you can see, Doug in his one comment had absolutely nothing to say about my examples of Bachmann’s lunacy and incompetence, choosing instead to babble angrily about my supposed efforts to de-convert kids at a Catholic school:
Hey Kev, I have a friend that has a daughter that went to BBHS, where, for a period of time, she rejected her religion. I know she was on the track team. I’m wondering if it was some asshole like you that did that to her. Thankfully, she’s found her way back. I was horrified to find out that someone of your ilk was associated with that otherwise fine school. You suk! (sic) Too bad we can’t all be “enlightened” like you. Not…
So even if you haven’t seen any of the various things I’ve written about these guys over time, you can see where this guy is coming from. He has all of the sophistication of a 13-year-old and the integrity of flatulence.
Anyway, he was recently canned as an unpaid columnist for the Laconia Daily Sun, and was set loose by the company that owns the radio station that hosted a true wreck of a Saturday radio show hosted by Doug and Skip called Meet The New Press. From a functional standpoint this is hardly a setback. We’re talking about a very small mind in a small town in a small state. Neither enterprise had a significant following, and I would bet that the radio show was a modest money sink, not a revenue stream. But Doug doesn’t care about that–like most wingnut bloggers, he would rather be hated than ignored, and if anything he’s probably pleased about this article because it will invite curious readers to visit Granite Grok and drive up traffic. Those who can’t actually accomplish anything yet erroneously believe they have meaningful things to say are the world’s most enthusiastic attention whores. This is not going to make Doug Lambert a household name, but keep in mind that he has no concept of just how small-time he, his blog, and his other outlets are, or were.
A couple years ago, this blog was mentioned on Meet The New Press. After I’d energetically mocked Granite Grok back in the days when hysterical lunatic Judy Paris, not only a homophobe but a frothing-at-the-mouth warmonger, was still a part of that virtual train wreck, those dimwits tried like hell to get me to come on the show. I kept telling them that they first needed to answer a series of very simple questions I repeatedly posted on the Refuge. Of course they refused, being wingnuts and all and thus possessing the intellectual integrity of raw sewage. PZ Myers offered in a comment to this post (which highlights more of Judy’s hollow-headed horseshit) to send at least a thousand readers over to participate in the discussion, but Skip wasn’t interested because these guys are not about honest, earnest dialogue. They are about sheer noise. (Sorry about the broken links in some of those posts, which were imported from a blog that used to live elsewhere. You don’t need to read everything I’ve written about the Grokkers to get the point.)
Doug has posted a few things on Granite Grok in an effort to feign contrition (and Judy shows up in the comments being her usual self). This is all too typical:
I will no longer write at GraniteGrok for an as yet undetermined amount of time. I plan on spending my time in prayer and reflection, looking inward to the unhealthy malice in my heart, for which I will ultimately have to face my Maker , begging for His undeserved mercy.
This is just classic transparent bullshit from someone reacting to consequences, not his own behavior. He’s been an anti-gay right-wing crusader for years and he’s not going to change his mind merely because he no longer has a column in a tiny newspaper or a radio show no one listens to. I should allow for at least the possibility that Doug will truly change his mind in terms of his bigotry toward gays, but the fact that he still thinks there’s a God to show him how to do this speaks volumes about his capacity for growth or whatever you want to call it. People love resorting to God-talk when they get caught doing shit. It didn’t help Kenneth Lay much.
The comments under the Monitor article are typical–ignorant screeching and bellowing about censorship and First Amendment rights being violated. I know I don’t have to say this to most people here, but no one is keeping Doug from saying whatever the hell he wants. He can go on ranting in pidgin English about the evils of The Gay and of liberalism in general. He can keep making things up and drawing on joke sources for his “information” and propagate lies and idiocy throughout the tiny corner of the blogosphere that acknowledges his existence.
Despite the feeble and dolorous verbal flailing of the dipshits on the Monitor site as well as on Granite Grok itself, reality supervenes in this instance. If a company or entity wishes to distance itself from a person or outfit on the basis of behavior or speech that the company deems unruly or unsavory, that is the company’s right. You’d think that right-wingers with their supposedly pro-capitalist, pro-responsibility stance would appreciate this better than anyone, but they’re too incoherent and hypocritical to notice or care. They just want to throw tantrums, because it’s all they’re good at, and I’d be very surprised if Doug doesn’t return to shaking his own rattle and wah-wah-wah-ing before long.
